Founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1910 as a way to teach youth about outdoor and lifelong skills, the concept of Scouting has continued to grow in popularity and practice around the world. Lord Powell believed that youth should be given tools to help them succeed in their lives through real-life activities rather than books, a lesson that is still popular to this day!
While Scouting as a whole was created by Lord Baden Powell in England, Scouting America was founded by W.D. Boyce after he was so impressed by one of Powell's scouts that he decided to bring the concept over to the United States of America.
Scouting is one of the few youth-serving extracurriculars that focuses on developing well-rounded young adults through education, physical fitness, and new experiences. Most troops meet once a week or less, allowing youth to still participate in sports and other extracurriculars. However, most importantly, Scouting is about having fun in a place where it is safe to fail and try new things.
The World Scouting Organization is the parent organization of Scouting America and dozens of other international Scouting groups. Over 200 countries and 50 million individuals are involved in Scouting worldwide. Proof that the concept of investing in our youth is popular everywhere.
Whether your youth is interested in Automotive Maintenance, Swimming, Forestry, or any of over 130 other unique classes, Scouting has a Merit Badge designed to teach them about it. These Merit Badges have requirements that cover a great entry into any topic, and provide youth with the opportunity to try and explore new hobbies, information, and even careers.

One of the key components of Scouting is helping youth become the leaders of tomorrow. All troop activities are youth-led, with adults helping with the logistical side of things. Scouts are expected to work together, teach new scouts, and take on leadership roles within the troop. Through these experiences, youth learn how to educate, communicate, plan, and more!
Scouting offers countless activities that youth would otherwise be unlikely get to participate in. From more basic activities like Climbing and Archery to high-adventure activities like Camping in the BWCA and Whitewater Rafting, there's always fun new things to try.
